Hi, I'm Anna Marie Somera, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in San Antonio, Texas. I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating anxiety, burnout, unresolved trauma, or simply that heavy sense of feeling stuck. My passion is helping people reconnect with themselves and live with greater ease, self-trust, and connection throughout all areas of their lives.

What Therapy With Me Can Look Like

My work with clients is founded on a holistic, trauma-informed approach to healing and growth. This means you are treated as a whole person, recognizing the deep interconnection between body, mind, emotions, spirit, and relationships. It also means acknowledging that traumatic experiences often leave lasting imprints on your nervous system and your sense of self. Whether you see me in person at my San Antonio office or through telehealth from anywhere in Texas, therapy provides a safe and supportive space to gently untangle those patterns and invite balance back into your life.

My clients often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or caught in cycles of anxiety and self-doubt. Over time, they begin to feel:

  • More at home in themselves and their bodies
  • Less ruled by anxiety or harsh inner criticism
  • More resilient in the face of life's challenges
  • Clearer about what truly matters to them
  • More connected in their relationships and to the world around them

The goal is not just to cope, but to thrive. To live from a place of clarity, safety, and connection.

My Approach

My approach integrates somatic-oriented psychotherapy with evidence-based practices. Drawing on my training in Polyvagal Theory, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and other modalities, I bring both clinical depth and a grounded, body-centered presence to our work.

Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how your nervous system responds to stress, so you can work with those responses to build a sense of safety and connection in your being. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a type of therapy that helps you understand how stress, trauma, and emotions show up in your body. By gently exploring and shifting these patterns, you can begin to feel more grounded, present, and connected to yourself over time. Compassion-Focused therapy helps you develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself so that, over time, responding with compassion instead of self-criticism can ease anxiety and shame and strengthen your sense of self-worth.

I also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps you make peace with difficult thoughts and feelings so you can move toward the life you truly want, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps you explore your inner world with curiosity and compassion to create lasting harmony.

Together, we'll develop tools to regulate your nervous system, through practices like breathwork, grounding, and reshaping negative self-talk, while engaging in mindful exploration of your inner world.

My Journey

My own healing journey has been a big part of shaping the therapist I am today. Like many people, I've struggled with self-esteem and the weight of external expectations, often comparing myself to others rather than honoring my own truth. Over time, through self-reflection, somatic practices, and mindful exploration, I've learned to listen to my inner voice, trust my instincts, and create a life that feels authentic and aligned with who I am.

My formal education includes a Master's in Somatic Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, CO, one of the few graduate programs in the country that integrates contemplative practices, somatic awareness, and clinical training. This immersive education shaped my holistic approach to therapy and deepened my understanding of how healing happens through the body, not just the mind. Before that, I studied at Antioch College, an environment rooted in experiential learning that deepened my curiosity about human nature and sharpened my critical thinking skills.

My personal experience combined with my formal training allows me to bring both clinical expertise and heartfelt understanding to my work. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate inner criticism and self-doubt, and I bring compassion, patience, and presence to our sessions. It is a privilege to do this work with clients across San Antonio and throughout Texas, and I take that responsibility seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you currently accepting new clients in San Antonio?

Yes. I am accepting new clients for both in-person therapy at my San Antonio office and telehealth sessions for anyone in Texas. The best way to get started is to request a free consultation through the contact page.

What issues do you specialize in?

My areas of focus include anxiety, burnout, unresolved trauma, self-esteem, and that heavy sense of feeling stuck. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions or patterns they haven't been able to shift on their own. If you're unsure whether what you're experiencing fits, reach out. We can talk through it together.

What is holistic therapy, and how is it different from regular therapy?

Holistic therapy treats you as a whole person rather than focusing only on a single symptom or diagnosis. It recognizes the connection between your body, mind, emotions, relationships, and sense of meaning. In practice, this means our work goes beyond talk. We pay attention to what's happening in your body, how your nervous system is responding, and what your inner world is telling you.

What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing. Rather than relying only on conversation, we also pay attention to physical sensations, breathing, posture, and movement. This is particularly helpful to address symptoms of anxiety, trauma, and stress that have been difficult to treat or feel stuck in the body.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes. I offer telehealth therapy for clients located anywhere in Texas. Sessions are conducted via a secure video platform during my regular hours, Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 7pm.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the healing process. I offer a free initial consultation so you can ask questions, share what you're looking for, and get a sense of whether my approach feels right for you. There is no pressure or obligation.
